3-0 out of 5 stars Standard Catalog of Military Firearms
There are still some errors and omissions in this edition and in many cases the history doesn't go back to 1870. The values quoted are also different for the same gun listed for different countries. The values are a couple of years old in some cases. The information on automatic weapons appears to be good. I hope this will become as good as his Standard Catalog of Firearms. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Fine Photo Study of the WW II British Service.
This full color book has a broader scope than his WW II Tommy (c.f.) It covers the khaki drill and jungle green uniforms of the RAF and even the Naval ratings of the Malta Defense Force in white undress shorts.5-0 out of 5 stars Khaki Drill and Jungle Green
Oh, wow! A wonderful follow up to Tommy! An excellent and all encompassing review of British & Commonwealth uniforms worn in the warmer theatres of WW2. And at last someone has shown me that the P44 Equipment really did have an actual rucksack. Other writers, (Davis & Chappel), when describing this item, never show what it looked like, and as I have a P44 large pack that is nothing like what they describe, I doubted the existance of a rucksack. So my thanks to Messrs. Ingram & Brayley for illustrating it in use, and mounted on the P45 manpack carrier. The photos in the book are ecellent, the descriptions are clear and often amusing, and the subject matter extensive. To my mind it is the diffinitive work on British uniforms in the Middle and Far Easts. I only wait, with ill-concealed impatience, for September when the publishers promise the republication of the authors' first work on the uniforms of the British women's services; then my collections of books on British uniforms of WW2 will be complete

5-0 out of 5 stars A SUPERB FOLLOW UP TO WW11 TOMMY
As the title suggests this work covers the uniforms worn by the British forces in tropical regions, personal kit and weapons are illustrated but the emphasis is on clothing of all types.Captions are necessariy brief but highly informative, space being devoted to quality photography rather than long text. If you enjoyed WW11 Tommy you will love this work that covers an untouched field. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Primer
I am a modeller and wanted to get a better idea of the uniforms worn in various conditions so I can be more realistic in my painting. From this aspect, the book was fairly helpful as I have found to be true in general of the excellent Europa Militaria Series. The book is composed of color photos of real uniforms collected by the author over the last 15-20 years. They are worn by reenactors in somewhat realistic scenes. It would be useful to have photographs also taken from a distance to get a true idea of how helpful various patterns truely were. This book is written mostly with the WII uniform collector in mind.Because of that, there are fairly extensive narratives in how to determine the real thing from fakes with the descriptions of many of the uniforms presented.I certainly was more educated after reading this breezy 64 page account. From a modeller/painter's standpoint, I would have liked to see more photos of the complete uniform and also photos taken in a true winter landscape to see how the winter pattern actually looked. So with these minor quibbles, I rate it 4 stars and recommend it for the collector especially, but also for the modeller and those just curious. It is written in an easy to read and enjoyable fashion. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars What a visual journey!
"A Visual Journey of Wartime Patriotism United We Stand" by Richard J. Perry is an outstanding piece on World War II. I reccomend it as a must see for anyone interested in WWII.It presents a stunning display of images, as well as some interseting and insightful tidbits of text.I am excited to use this book in mysocial studies classroom.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for a picturesque look at patriotism
I picked up this book because of it's eyecatching front cover and enjoyed flipping through it over and over again. This book is a great way to look back on the history of campaigning in hard times for the support of our soldiers. I personally enjoyed the quotes from people all over the United States remembering small details of the life and times during WWII. Although the book does not have a lot of articles or descriptions of the era, it was not meant to lecture on the life and times but rather give vignettes of history. The pictures remind you of going through a box hidden in your grandmother's basement of old keepsakes. It is obvious from the author, a U.S. Navy veteran, that a lot of care went into this collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars United We Stand
"United We Stand" by Richard Perry is a wonderful look at an earlier era when, like today, the country stood together to face a common enemy. Not only is the book a visual delight and a capsule of memories for those who lived through the war, but it clearly illustrates the differences in warfare between then and now. Today we have a professional and technologically sophisticated military that can strike with surgical precision with few American lives lost. Currently, unless one has a relative or friend in the military or was involved in the destruction of the World Trade Center; we experience little personal sacrifice as the war on terrorism progresses.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars British Web Equipment Of The Two World Wars by Martin J. Brayley
And I thought I knew all there was to know about British Web Equipment. This book told me otherwise. For such a slim volume it contains a wealth of information and it is superbly illustrated with lavish colour photography. It deals primarily with the basic web sets and does not cover ancillary equipment such as Respirator bags,Map cases etc. However this is another subject entirely and I look forward eagerly to a companion volume.Martin Brayley's works include,WW2 Tommy and KD&JG both essential works on the subject so you are assured of quality. This is a superb book at a great price and it has become my Bible of British Webbing. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Sword Knots and All
Although I normally find the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71 an interesting subject, I cannot say that Osprey's Men-at-Arms #416, German Armies 1870-71 (1), sparks much interest. This volume on the Prussian armies, by Michael Solka, is so mired in intensely boring detail about Prussian uniforms that I found very little in these pages that was fresh or insightful. If you want to read about the different types of sword knots or what color buttons Prussian dragoons wore, then this is your book but otherwise....

3-0 out of 5 stars Captions Sometimes Grossly Erroneous
This is an outstanding work with priceless photos of mostly prewar scenes. My primary bone to pick are the captions that the author wrote for the artillery section: he misidentified almost all the guns in the photos or failed to make identifications at all. He should have tried to get more expert help in this area, as identification of some of the pieces is not easy as most of them are 1870's - 1880's vintage non-recoil carriage guns. The photos are facinating and amazingly clear; the captions detract from an excellent effort on the whole however.

3-0 out of 5 stars For early war interest only!
While this book was VERYinformative and contains a large amount of photos reflecting hard work by the author, the title is deceiving when it says 1900-1918.It should say 1900 to 1916.There is ONE picture of asoldier in a Stalhelm, and post 1915 gear.If you are looking for earlywar photos, this book is for you. However, stay away if you are lookingfor a detaild description of equipment, especially for the post 1916 years.

4-0 out of 5 stars Amazing photos, great descriptions.I'd like more detail.
This is a coffee table book if ever there was one. It's HUGE.That's great for us picture hounds though. The pictures in this volume are fantastic, covering more areas of the Imperial German Army than youprobably thought existed.Commentary on the pictures is fairlyinformative, and often amusing.I would have liked a more thoroughdetailing of the gear that the various subjects are wearing, and how thesethings changed over the course of the war.The color insignia plates arealso a nice addition, but some explainations in English would have beenuseful. As a WWI reenactor (I know, odd hobby), I am always looking fornew sources for information on German uniforms, and this is a good one.Asthis might be part of a series, I'd like to see a future volume thatactually details specific pieces of personal gear of soldiers. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars An "Almost" Fantastic Book...
This is a VERY comprehensive book which runs the gamut from early firearms up to and including (most of) the modern arms found today in sport or military usage. The photos are first rate, as are the descriptives at the beginning of each chapter.
2-0 out of 5 stars Poor
Despite having good descriptions, the book does not contain enough modern guns, and lists too many ancient ones. For example, there is not a single mention of a Glock handgun in the whole book! Worthless, in my opinion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
Great illustrated text of the history and details of famous firearms. Although this is not an all inclusive list of firearms it has all of the historical as well as technical innovative firearms of the world, my only complaint is its grouping of firearms by country. This is now one of my favorite books to add to my more technical books on firearms. ... Read more
