5-0 out of 5 stars MAGNESIUM OVERCAST
Very good reference on the B-36 Peacemaker. Well illustrated with black and white as well as color photographs. Many cut away drawings and diagrams. Considerable technical information A good source book for the serious researcher or individual interested in this Cold War era bomber.
5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible detail
From page 1 this work contains details of the design and prduction of the B-36 that will satisfy the aircraft purist.Practically every page has drawings, diagrams, or photos that illustrate the print text.I highly recommend this book to anyone who actually saw and heard these great airplanes in the air, and to anyone interested in aviation history and SAC.Incidentally, if you never saw or heard one of these in the air, there is a great Jimmie Stewart movie, The Strategic Air Command, that is built around the B-36 unit that was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Ft Worth, Tx during the '50's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
This book is great.Instead of being a typical history book, it takes you through WW IIby sharing newspaper articles of the day's events.Well worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars More interesting than fiction
This is one of the most engaging and brilliant books I've ever read...and all of it true.
5-0 out of 5 stars A chance to live (or re-live) World War II
World War II: Day by Day is a strikingly useful compilation of important events duing the second world war. It's unusual in two ways:First it focuses on ALL important events in those years, so you can find out, for example, when women started painting stocking seams on their legs as well as the date Rommel captured Tobruk. It's more than a list of important battles and important American political events--this book covers the various home fronts and the various battle fronts.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
A must for the collector. color photo's and detailed drawings and pictures. This is the way to do it right. Includes Inception of the Globemasters, phototypes leading up to the C-17, Development History -photo's in the building stages - many, Missions, Productions list, and Specs, A "gotta a have one".

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Reference on the C-17
I enjoy this book immensely. If you're an enthusiast, you know that there aren't a lot of books currently available on the C-17; the plane is just too new.The C-17 is, however, a fascinating plane, and if you're eager for more info you won't be disappointed with this book. The textual content is first rate.It has a very pleasing rhythm and balance. If you have other aerospace books on your shelf you know that sometimes the writer is very technically knowledgeable without possessing adequate writing skills.Or, the information is unbalanced (e.g., too much history, too little technical, or vice versa). This book was both written well, and edited well. The photos, too, are very good. While most are black-and-white [there are several pages of 4-color photos], they are well printed and not distracting because of their monochromatic nature as in some other, cheaper publications.I was also impressed with the tidbits of information that Norton delivers. You'll read about and see information on hidden features (e.g., jacks, APUs, exterior lights, etc.).All in all, it's a very well delivered presentation on the newest airlifter, and a worthy addition to your aerospace library.

5-0 out of 5 stars A profusely illustrated history of this remarkable aircraft
With less than a decade from its first flight, and with production less than halfway through its presently federally funded run, the C-17A Globemaster II is still considered a young aircraft. Aviation specialist Bill Norton presents the reader with a profusely illustrated history of this remarkable American military aircraft's gestation, development, unique features, strategic and tactical airlift missions; and service record to date. Boeing C-17A Globemaster III is a remarkable and impressive addition to any personal, professional, academic, or community library aviation history collection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not the best quality pictures, But The Most Interesting
There are several famous photographs of Patton with his camera around his neck. It never occurred to me that if he carried the camera he probably used it, and if he used it, the pictures would be interesting to see. It apparently never occurred to anyone else until Mr. Hymel found some references to Patton's Photo Albums in the Library of Congress.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, but some problem from publisher
I like A-4, so I purchased this book. I know A-4 has not a good looking like Tomcat or Eagle. I just need some information about its history, combat record and variation. This book match my requirement. Its character is plenty. In combat record, this book introduces all wars which A-4 took part in, for example Vietnam War, Middle East War, Falklands Islands War and Gulf War. But this book like its brother, Panavia Tornado, another book from same publisher, includes few pictures, just has four pages color pictures, no drawing. I think this layout could not match someone's requirement. And there are publishing wrong in a few pages. But if you are a Skyhawk fans, don't hesitate to buy it. It is the complete Skyhawk's book you can find in market, of course except pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Informative
A good coverage of this aircraft from development to employment, covering unique export versions of the aircraft as well as the main stream US versions. Well supported with images to be of value to those doing model aircrafts as well as history buffs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Weapons as art
This beautiful, photo-packed book indeed outlines evolution of weaponry, but I am most struck by the artistry of the implements. A jewel-encrusted scimitar (1,295 diamonds; owned by Catherine the Great), beaded American Indian club, carvings on an 1880s bicycle pistol and Turkish shield -- all are works by master artisans. Ivory and pearl of pistol handles, wood grain for rifles, and precious metal inlays create a sense that these are objects of beauty rather than ruin. A glossary explains nuances, like the luk of a kris or pommel of a hilt. To think that it was the personal collection of a man and wife -- now in an Alabama museum -- shows both generosity and appreciation of its historical and aesthetic value. This volume captures it all. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth it for the Pictures and Painting Alone
As an active duty Captain I was given this book by my father who is an Army Colonel.A great tabletop/bookshelf book with a history of the army which is enlightening, particulary the many photos and captions. The history in the chapters themselves is somewhat simplistic and "politically correct." Some of the Army's less glorious moments are conviently written out or glossed over or sanatized rather than dealt with in a forthright manner - i.e. the Indian wars, Civil War (southern generals are pictured but not discussed in depth), Bonus Marchers, etc. This doesn't take away from it being an excellent primer on the Army, its history, organization, values, and goals.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great technical data and profiles.....
As far as I am concerned, the book is outstanding. The diagrams of the battlecruiser are superb. As a modeler, the book shows clearly, the amount of detail that can be achieved. The profile inside the jacket is cool. For the HMS Hood fan, the book is right up their alley.

5-0 out of 5 stars The first of the "Anatomy of the Ship" series
This was the first book in the 36 books of the Anatomy of the ship series, published by Conway Maritime Press and the Naval Institute Press. 4-0 out of 5 stars Complete technical drawings/detail of HMS Hood w/good photos
Not a narrative of the Hoods experiences, other than a brief description of her tragic end, but a complete technical description of the entire ship from stem to stern, keel to topmast, with exhaustive detailed drawingstaken from her plans. It also lays out her complete mechanical history(refits etc). For naval architects, a great book. For history bufs, a bitless so, although there a some excellent rare pictures of what mustarguably have been one of the most handsome ships ever built... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AC-47 Gunship Shootdowns
I am pleased with the book and the information it provided me, since I did take a active part flying three different types of gunships in SEA beginning in 1968 thru 1973. I did not find in my copy of VIETNAM Air Loses, probably the most infamous "shootdown" of all of the AC-47s, that being AC-47 Tail Number 770 in which Sgt John L. Levitow was awarded the Congressional Medal Of Honor. This aircraft was Spooky 71 which was out of Bien Hoa Air Base near Saigon on the night of 24 Feb 1969. Can you tell me why the omission? I would also ask for your permission to extract certain information from the book for a project I am doing in regards to AC-47 and AC-130 air losses. Publishing credits will be given. Thank you, CMSGT Bruce H. Maine, USAF (Ret)

5-0 out of 5 stars All The Answers Are Here!
I have always been fascinated with the Air War over Vietnam, especially the air campaigns over North Vietnam (Rolling Thunder and Linebacker).I attempted to compile a list of air losses but this produced more questions and more searching.Mr Hobson has put it all together in one book. Finally, one book that has all the answers. When I received my copy I couldn't put it down until after several hours.

4-0 out of 5 stars A worthy culmination
This book should be considered as the worthy culmination of the previous efforts and publications of its authors, spanning 2-3 decades. Although aircraft that many would consider as key have been omitted, the authors admit to this in the foreword and give their reasons, which I think are quite valid. Inspite of this characteristic, this book takes its place among the standard reference volumes for its category.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Military Aviation Reference
A must for aviation enthusiasts. I've got several dated editions of Angellucci's aviation reference books. I think no aviation enthusiast should be without a copy of this most excellent reference book. The color pictures come to life, and it is packed with relavent statistics, data, and pull-charts which are teeming with information. The only criticism I have is that after glancing through this most recent edition in a book store... it doesn't seem to have any new aircraft. The Joint Strike Fighter and the F-22 Raptor come to mind.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Resource!
This book is a great resource for aviation enthusiasts. It contains some information on virtually every production combat aircraft between 1914 to today.Invaluable are the 3-view drawings of the relevant aircraft. It also contains many charts and graphs explaining a variety of topics, such as aircraft production in relevant countries involved in the many wars where air power has been used, comparison of maximum altitude, comparison of maximum range, etc. This book does not give detailed specifications of each aircraft, but a generalized description within a paragraph ordered around date of operation or design, parent country, and type of aircraft. Many color pictorials of insignia and camouflage (again very generalized, mostly only the prominent insignia and camouflage schemes).I recommend it, especially for the aviation modeler (either plastic or computer modeler)! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Inspring reference for reenactors
Embleton's book provides a surprising amount of densely informative text, accompanied by full color photographs of good-quality reenactment kits. The periods featured include the 10th through 15th centuries, though the 15th century gets the greatest amount of coverage.Interestingly, women (or at least the types of women likely to accompany a period army) are also included and receive a surprising amount of coverage also.I recommend this little gem to any 14th-15th century European reenactor, as well as to military and costume scholars of the medieval period.

5-0 out of 5 stars Priceless historical reference!
Medieval Military Costume is the most important living history book that I have found to date.Is has become an invaluable reference for my 14th century re-enactment club for historical clothing research. For anyone dedicated to living history work this book is a valuable addition to your reference library. Many aspects of historical clothing and armour are covered from soldier's helmets to men's underwear and from ladies's headpieces to boots. The garments and armour are historically created using the dyes, patterns, stitching and construction of their respective eras.If you are tired of the roleplaying versions of medieval history and have a taste for true history order this book today.

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing! a must!
This books is rather thin - only 96 pages - but there is not page crammed with gorgeous illustrations or colour pics ( generally two or three large ones on every page!!) that show military costumes in Medieval times. He covers all periods of the Middle Ages, and all levels from Lord and Knights, to bowman and common footsoldier, even women on the campaigns. For those who love history, but have no hands on experience and want to really visualise what each piece of equipment was, how it fit, was worn with other pieces of clothing and accoutrements you cannot find a better resource.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful coffee-table book of Naval Air
A wonderful coffee-table picture book, this glossy photo-essay on the world of seagoing flight will go well in the collection of any pilot, plane nut, or weekend warrior. It's full of "National Geographic"-stylephotos, well composed and lovely to look at, of the shark-finned mounts ofAmerica's nautical knights of the sky. It's not the greatest ever; it lacksthe gritty "you are there" reality of C.J. Heatly's "TheCutting Edge," (who, after all, really was a carrier pilot), butcertainly does an acceptable job. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars The downfall of Saddam Hussein.
A nice little picture book about the War in Iraq. This book only explores the 2003 War that brought Saddam down.It does not cover the insurgentcy after the collaspe of Saddam's government. It covers the 21 days to bring Saddam down.As always, Time's pictures are without equal. There is not much meat in this book about the conflicts raging in both Iraq and the United States about starting the war.
5-0 out of 5 stars Contains high quality pictures and detailed information
This is worth it for the price if you want to follow the events of the conflict. Many photos depicting the real events that happened on our Tv screens while it all happened.I enjoyed the book and keep it on my coffee table.

4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely one to add to your personal library
Talking about pictures being worth a thousand words!Every photo in the book I felt drew me in to imagining what it would have been like if I was the person behind the camera. I wouldn't recommend this book to someone who is looking for more of the technical "heavy duty" information on the war, i.e. tactics, troop movement, etc. It's more for the person who likes browsing through a book at their leisure especially picture books. The write-ups by the journalists are very interesting and do a great job of portraying what they and the soldiers experienced in the opening hours of the war and during it.I especially enjoyed the "Verbatim" sections that were scattered throughout the book.I am hoping that TIME might do a similar follow up book on the reconstruction of Iraq as my husband is currently over there with the 1st Armored Division assisting in the peace keeping processes. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Causes and Consequence
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. ~Marianne Williamson
3-0 out of 5 stars Where Is the Pacific War?
This is a well-illustrated overview of World War II if your main interest is in the European and African campaigns. Unfortunately, like so many other books about the war, the Pacific campaign is treated as an afterthought. In this book the Pacific rates about 20% of the text. For the Europe-Africa campaigns this book is a four. For the Pacific campaign it is about one-and-a-half.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book with some glitches
Overall this book is full of very nice pictures and data. However, I have noticed some glitches in this book as following:
