slightly off-track
Svengali, Rasputin, Martin.If what Mr. Kaiser says in this book is true, then it's too bad that Malachi (why does Kaiser spell it Malachy?) Martin died before INTERPOL, and whatever other law enforcement agencies should be interested, got to him.

Excellent!!
This is a very worthwhile book, and does much to explain the development of papal primacy over the centuries. Schatz is well-balanced; he doesn't flinch from episodes in history that call into question this doctrine, nor does he hesitate to show where it was clearly exercised in the past.
An excellent overview
I strongly recommend Klaus Schatz "Papal Primacy" for any who want balanced overview of the history of primacy in the papacy. While maintaining the validity of Catholicism's current perception of the papacy, Schatz attempts to mark out the road that lead to this understanding with honesty and impartiality towards its adversaries. Of additional value are the extensive footnotes Schatz uses to document his account. These are useful in their own right for any interested in doing further research into the foundational primary and secondary texts.
Refreshing work of European scholarship
Schatz brings a refreshing work of outstanding historical scholarship and theological analysis on the development of the primacy, unlike his North American counterparts. He assumes a Catholic readership and a basic background of patristics and church history. He avoids the common historical pitfalls that are typical of current polemical discussions, where even Catholic apologists sometimes hastily introduce modern concepts into the early developments of the Church. Lovers of Rome, read this book!
This book is very well researched and written in a manner all lovers of Roman renaissance history, art and architecture will find rewarding.The author finds within the art and architecture of Rome new details andsubtleties which often seem lost in the grand depictions of this highlyresearshed subject.The book contains excellent reproductions of the art -especially the Sistine Chaple and the Alter pieces, a very useful map and achronological table toward the end which is valuable for quick reference. My only negetive criticism of this fine book would be concerning thehistory of the earlier buildings which existed before the grand palazzoswere erected.For example, I have a sub-passion for the history of thePiazza del Campidoglio (Capitoline).I know the present Palazzo delSenatore was formerly a palace or large building constructed over theTabularium built by Lucius Cornelius Sulla.I was looking for moreinformation explaining Michelangelo's planning and vision (which heaccomplished) for this important site.This very well may have beenoutside the author's parameter but I am looking for a detailed discussionof the layers of history around the buildings of the Capitol.Nonetheless,I loved this book and will often refer to it and bring it with me on mynext trip to the Eternal City. ... What Vatican Documents Really Say.
This small book is well written by Michael Davies. He shows that Vatican II and the Post-Vatican II legislation did not mandate any changes in the Catholic Sanctuary nor the Mass. And it most definitely did not mandate the moving of the tabernacle from the main altar. He quotes passages from church documents to prove his thesis.

People Of God is a theological work concerning the church as "People of God", an image that came from the Vatican II that brought about changes in Catholic self-understanding, and brought the church to the role of the laity.
